Private Yoga Sessions

Private yoga sessions are 90 minutes long. They’re conducted at my studio in north Berkeley or at your home.

The advantage of a private yoga session is that you are receiving my full attention and expertise. I can work with you from many angles, including:

  • addressing injuries or asymmetries in the body that are impeding capacity to function or exercise in daily life,

  • developing a challenging yet doable home practice and updating it as you progress,

  • strengthening and increasing capacity in general or becoming proficient in one or a set of poses (for example, inversions or backbends). 

Some of my private students do not attend public classes at all.  They’re working on a physical issue that makes it difficult to attend public classes.  Others prefer to meet with me one-on-one to enjoy a targeted work-out / yoga practice with ample personal attention.

I am a man who has had hip replacement surgery and back and shoulder issues. In an attempt to improve mobility and decrease pain, I tried yoga classes, starting about five years ago when I was 65.

Taking classes with Yoko, I discovered that she seemed able to sense how I was struggling, and by instruction and hands on assistance, to help me.

I took private lessons with her for about 18 months. What a difference in my posture, strength, and flexibility!  Working with her one-on-one meant she was able to focus on the positions and movements that did me the most good.

She is a real expert. There's no mumbo jumbo. She's not afraid to push me hard, but very aware of my particular needs and limitations. Her way of thinking and talking about the body makes sense to me. Covid 19 stopped our sessions, but hopefully we can resume soon.
